Insertion of a gypsy element in the Ype 5'UTR, in antisense orientation relative to the direction of Ype transcription. Transcripts from the mutated Ype locus contain residual gypsy sequences in the 5'UTR, although the splice position varies, and are also missing a segment of the wild-type Ype 5'UTR due to splicing. Most of these altered 5'UTRs carry upstream ORFs.
Tyrosinase activity in adult.
scutellar bristle | female | increased number (with YpeChi-A)
scutellar bristle | female | increased number (with YpeΔ1)
Ypes1/Df(1)Exel6245 and Ypes1 homozygous females exhibit darker bodies. Ypes1/Df(1)Exel6245 females present missing ocellar/postvertical bristles.
Ypes1 heterozygous females exhibit lighter-colored scuta than controls.
YpeChi-A/Ypes1 and YpeΔ1/Ypes1 females exhibit a dark body color and ectopic scutellar bristles.
β-alanine pools only 39% normal.
Females hemizygous for s1 very dark and sterile.
ERG normal.
RK1 at 19oC. Body colour: dark with prominent trident.
