Description

Insertion of a gypsy element in the Ype 5'UTR, in antisense orientation relative to the direction of Ype transcription. Transcripts from the mutated Ype locus contain residual gypsy sequences in the 5'UTR, although the splice position varies, and are also missing a segment of the wild-type Ype 5'UTR due to splicing. Most of these altered 5'UTRs carry upstream ORFs.

Ype^Chi-A/Ype^s1 and Ype^Δ1/Ype^s1 females exhibit a dark body color and ectopic scutellar bristles.
