Detailed Description

Abnormal larval brain lobe: severe vacuolation of cortex. Hemizygotes have no discernible imaginal disc tissue.

Germline clones survived but eggs were defective: some were not fertilized and others failed to develop.

Germline clone cells were viable but yield inviable eggs: no signs of development.

Death can occur at the onset of first instar larvae or at variable times throughout the second instar. Mosaic analysis demonstrates mutant phenotype is non-autonomous, clones survive as sectors of mutant tissue only in the abdomen.

Comments

Shows a maternal-zygotic interaction, demonstrated in males carrying mutant allele from heterozygous mother and variegating allele in the paternally derived Dp(1;4)mg.

Heteroallelic combinations are fully lethal.
