Germline clones produce abnormal eggs due to abnormal oogenesis: few collapsed eggs.

Deficiency complementation analysis is consistent with the lethality of the line being associated with the insertion. The insertion maps within the Vps20 transcription unit. However, since the insertion lies within a gene-rich region, the lethality can not yet be conclusively mapped to a single gene from these results. Thus l(2)rG270rG270 (representing the lethality of the chromosome) has been kept as a separate allele in FlyBase for now.
This allele was listed in the BDGP database as a lethal or sterile line during the period 1994-1999, but was discarded from the gene disruption project prior to the summary publication (FBrf0111489). Reasons for excluding lines from the collection described in FBrf0111489 include presence of more than one P insertion on the mutant chromosome, separation of lethality (or sterility) from the location of the insertion, and loss of lethality (or sterility) from the stock.
