eye disc & morphogenetic furrow
photoreceptor cell & axon
Mutant embryos show a 2-3 fold increase in the number of Bolwig's organ neurons compared to wild type.
Most clones in the retina induce ectopic furrows. The axons of photoreceptor cells of ectopic ommatidia from these furrows do not always follow the normal polarity field towards the posterior and the optic stalk.
Clones induced in the eye disc cause circular ectopic furrows. Rotation of the ommatidia generated by circular furrows is as predicted by the two vector model of ommatidial rotation, provided that the equator pre-exists the furrow and is not altered by perturbations induced by ptc clones.
Clones of mutant wing tissue induce growth of anterior tissue, as mirror image duplications of anterior wing. Duplicated tissue includes no veins but is flanked by ectopic vein 3. At the wing margin, ptc mutant clones do not produce chemosensory bristles. No abnormal posterior compartment structures are observed in ptc clones.
