The mesoderm is able to spread out over the ectoderm after mesoderm invagination in Egfrtop-18A mutant embryos.
The number of neuronal cells is reduced in homozygous clones in the eye disc and the number does not increase posterior to the furrow as occurs during normal development. There appears to be a delay in differentiation within the clones. An abnormal pattern of R8 precursor cells, often twinned, is specified, and is not followed by recruitment of any other neuronal cell types, and posterior to the furrow R8 cells disappear.
Suppresses the "Ellipse" phenotype.
