Deletion of 3kb spanning some of the 5' flanking sequence and up to the first intron.
The ERG of T(1;4)9e2-10/Y flies carrying P{Dvir\Gpi1+t12.5} is normal.
Semi-lethal. Males are pupal lethal with a few adult escapers that are unable to fly and are slow moving. Half of the male flies have slightly raised and extended wings, the others are wild type and capable of robust bouts of courtship song despite their weak locomotor behaviour. The song is polycyclic and construct P{235R11} can rescue the mutant courtship song. Homozygotes lack the light-on and light-off transient spikes, construct P{235R11} can rescue the mutant phenotype. Walking optomotor performance for either direction of pattern movement displays large deficits, complete rescue is possible with the P{2-STOP} construct.

The song characteristics of D.melanogaster nonA9e2-10/Y males carrying Dvir\nonA+t12.5 (or Dvir\nonAΔ113, Dvir\nonAΔ67-4 or Dvir\nonAΔ168-8) show D.virilis-like features while maintaining indicators of "normal" D.melanogaster song output such as the subtle change in PF (intrapulse frequency) during a song burst. The flies also appear to have a D.virilis-like shorter IPI (interpulse interval), even though the other characteristics of the song pulses that have been measured should, indirectly, lead to a longer IPI, suggesting that Dvir\nonA+t12.5 is playing an active role in reducing IPIs.
