Heterozygotes have ectopic vein tissue in the wing.
bs14 homozygous clones in the dorsal air sac primordium grow normally and populate the tip of the air sac primordium to the same degree as wild-type clones
bs14 embryos show defects in the tracheal system at stage 16, having truncated terminal branches (about 95% penetrance).
In homozygotes, lethality acts at the 2nd or 3rd larval instar. Mutants show a tracheal phenotype similar to that of bs03267. When heterozygous with wild type, a few additional veins develop.
Mosaic analysis shows that the effect of bs14 is autonomous with respect to the effects on cell size: cells are considerably smaller. However dorsal veins overlying ventral clones are widened and blisters extend beyond clone borders.
Chromosome carrying bs14 is larval lethal but the basis for the lethality is not clear, though it does map within Df(2R)Px2. Alleles fall into a series in ascending order of severity: bsA48 < bs11 < bs12 < bs13 < bs14 < Df(2R)bs-F31.
