rl^Sem.sev heterozygous mutants exhibit a rough eye phenotype. They exhibit an average of 2.55 R7 cells per ommatidium, compared to 1 R7 cell per ommatidium in wild-type.

Supernumerary R7 cell formation. Injection of a Ras CAAX peptidomimetic, FTI-254, partially rescues the mutant eye phenotype and slightly reduces the average number of R7 cells per ommatidium.
