Heterochromatic pairing is nearly normal during meiosis. 4th chromosome pairing, as well as that of the X-FM7a pair is normal in prophase I in mutant oocytes. The chromosome configuration is completely normal. Typical nuclear polarity is evident and X and FM7a are consistently paired. At metaphase the nonexchange chromosomes mover precociously away from the plate.
