Imprecise excision of the P{lacW} element present in Itp-r83Aj5B4, resulting in a 4.8kb deletion from the site of the P{lacW} insertion to +139bp in the Itp-r83A transcription unit.
Body Wall Contractions (BWCs) in mutants are completely normal. Visceral muscle function as assayed by ingestion is also normal.
Homozygous larvae hatch normally and initially show healthy behaviour. However they fail to grow beyond the second larval instar stage and never metamorphose, although they live for longer than 7 days as larvae. Brain neuroblasts and midgut progenitor cells are present in 4 day old homozygous larvae, but they do not undergo any significant proliferation. The salivary glands and principal midgut epithelial cells undergo little endoreplication of DNA. Imaginal discs are rudimentary, with little if any cell proliferation or differentiation. Homozygous germ line clones do not produce any viable eggs or embryos. Ommatidia in homozygous clones in the eye show retinal degeneration. Light-induced photoreceptor activity in mutant photoreceptor cells in these clones is indistinguishable from wild-type in terms of sensitivity, kinetics of activation and deactivation, and adaptation.
Itpr1 is rescued by Itpr+tCosmidA
Lethality is rescued by Itp-r83A+tCosmidA and Itp-r83A+t20 but not by Itp-r83AtCosmidB, Itp-r83AtCosmidC or Itp-r83At6.
