Reported as M159L in FBrf93573. Maps to M162L in the CDS encoded by the reference sequence. The difference is due to the use of an upstream splice acceptor in an upstream intron. The annotated version is supported by full length cDNA LD41207 (GB:AY058692). The site of the nucleotide substitution in the mutant was inferred by FlyBase based on the reported amino acid change.
The number of R7-like cells per ommatidium is slightly increased in homozygotes compared to wild-type flies.
Almost completely suppresses the eye phenotype of phl1 hemizygotes; 99.0% of ommatidia are normal in phl1 hemizygotes also carrying Dsor1Su12. Partly suppresses the sev6 phenotype; flies hemizygous for sev6 and Dsor1Su12 have an R7 photoreceptor cell in 3.1% of ommatidia. Partly suppresses the maternal tor4 phenotype; 27.7% of embryos derived from tor4 Dsor1Su12 females have an A8 segment.
