vriKG01220/vri5R5.24 wings are smaller than wild type and have notches at the anterior margin. Multiple regions of the wing have atrophic or missing hairs which appear as non-pigmented zones on the wing surface. The average distance between stout bristles of the triple row is reduced compared to wild type in homozygous clones, which is characteristic of smaller cells.
Homozygous embryos are shortened and the dorsal epidermis often appears wrinkled and reduced (leading to a slight 'tail-up' phenotype) and trachea are interrupted. Less frequently the head skeleton is abnormal and ventral denticles are fused or missing. Hemizygotes die as larvae.
