Expression in procephalic neuroblasts stage 9-11: tritocerebrum - d1-4, d6-8, v1, v2, v4; deuterocerebrum - d1-10, d12, d13, v1-8; protocerebrum - ad2-4, ad6-9, ad11, ad12, ad14-16, av1, cd1-9, cd11-13, cd15, cd17, cd19-21, cv1-9, pd1-15, pd18, pd20, pv1-3
Strong EcollacZ staining is observed inneuroblasts of the procephalon and trunk from stage 9 onwards. Enhancertrap staining is observed in a complex and dynamic pattern throughout muchof larval and imaginal development. The imaginal disc pattern is describedin detail for klu transcripts and is said to be the same for EcollacZ.Early in third instar larvae, expression is observed in the prospectivewing area of the wing disc. Shortly thereafter, it is restricted to theprospective margin and hinge of the wing. About the same time, expressionis observed in the anlagen of the notum and scutellum. Expression isobserved in most proneural clusters at or shortly after the time of acexpression. klu expression in these regions precedes the appearance ofSOPs and is not continued in the SOPs themselves. Expression in leg discsalso starts early in the third instar. The klu expression domainoccupies a wedge-like sector encompassing about 1/3 of the circumferenceof the leg disc. Expression is in rings corresponding to the anlagen ofthe leg segments. Expression in the antennal and dorsal prothoracic discsalso occurs in concentric domains. In eye discs, expression starts behindthe morphogenetic furrow and extends through the whole anlage. Expressionin the larval brain is restricted to the neuroblasts and the proliferationzone of the optic lobes.
