dorsocentral bristle & axon
lamellocyte (with ushVX22)
ushVX22/ushrev24 third instar larval lymph glands exhibit hyperplasia. Lymph glands are on average two times larger in size compared to ushVX22/+ larvae, and three times larger in size compared to wildtype controls. Plasmatocyte and crystal cell numbers are decreased in ushVX22/ushrev24 lymph glands. A substantial increase in lamellocyte differentiation is observed.
Lymph glands from ushVX22/ushrev24 second instar larvae have a comparable size to control glands. In third instar larvae, lymph glands are extremely hypertrophic compared to controls. There is a four-fold increase in circulating haemocytes, including a large lamellocyte population which comprises about 20% of all circulating haemocytes.
Mutants do not exhibit ectopic dorsocentral (DC) bristles. the anterior and posterior DCs (aDC, pDC) are located at wild-type locations. However projection of these bristles are found to display differences from wild-type. The arborization appears more compact and dense with a greater number of side branches. Additional side branches are seen both at the point of entry into the thoracic ganglion and after crossing the midline on the anterior, main and posterior cross branches. In addition there are many varicosities, not usually seen in macrochaetes.
ushrev24/Df(2L)ushrev18 flies have an excess of dorsocentral and scutellar bristles, and show a loss of postvertical bristles. Dorsocentral bristles produced by wild-type cells at the border of homozygous clones in the dorsocentral region are nearly all displaced from their normal positions.
