      The average number of crystal cells per embryo is reduced in homozygous stage 13-14 embryos compared to wild type.

      Homozygous clones in the eye do not survive to adulthood, but produce scars across the eye. These scars contain large vacuoles, have ommatidia with missing photoreceptors and show disruptions in the pigment lattice.

      Some homozygous embryos show brief contractions, although most fail to hatch. Those that free themselves from the egg shell show only sporadic movements and quickly die as first instar larvae. Does not dominantly enhance position effect variegation of w caused by In(1)wm4h.
