Flies carrying sinaGMR.PN have a rough eye phenotype.

Flies carrying sinaGMR.PN have eye abnormalities ranging from a slight roughening of the ommatidial lattice to a gross disruption of eye morphology. Strong phenotypes include eyes which are noticeably smaller and less pigmented than wild-type, with a fusion of ommatidial surfaces resulting in a glazed appearance. The underlying retinal cells are disrupted in these eyes, with a severe disruption of patterning, although all cell types (pigment cells, cone cells, photoreceptor cells and bristles) are present in these eyes. Weaker phenotypes include defective ommatidial rotation, lattice disorganisation and occasional missing photoreceptors. Signs of ommatidial disorganisation are visible in pupae 40 hours after pupation. Patterning of the cone cells appears normal in third instar larvae, but is clearly disorganised by 40 hours after pupation.
