Spermatids have misshapen nuclei of variable volume, often in the form of extremely small micronuclei. Many spermatids have an abnormally large and misshapen Nebenkern associated with multiple nuclei. The mutation causes major irregularities in meiotic chromosome segregation and also disrupts cytokinesis. Spermatocytes show an array of problems in spindle assembly and behaviour: aster assembly and migration.
Excision of the P{lacW} insertion reverts the mutant phenotype to wild type.
