Less than 9% of eIF-4a1006 germline stem cells detected 1 week after clone induction (ACI) are detected at 3 weeks ACI, whereas 76% of control germline stem cells detected 1 week ACI are detected at 3 weeks ACI.

eIF-4a1006 germline stem cells divide slower than wild type germline stem cells, resulting in the prodcution of fewer cysts.

eIF-4a1006 clones in the wing disc show no regional differences in their ability to grow during both the fast and slow growth phases.

Homozygous and eIF-4a1006/Df(2L)GpdhA embryos have an increased number of amnioserosa cells compared to wild type.

Mutants are deficient in the exit from cellular quiescence and have a DNA replication block.

Larval growth arrest, in L1. 60% survive until 6 days after hatching. 10% survive until 8 days after hatching. DNA replication ceases. Mutant phenotype is cell autonomous. Mutant clones in the wing disc are virtually undetectable. All adults in which clones had been induced show a rough eye phenotype. Mutant clones in the eye produce a rough eye phenotype, almost no mutant cells are detected.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Most bamz3-2884/bamΔ86; eIF-4a1006/+ ovarioles contain 4-6 normal egg chambers, while the germaria contain fewer single germ cells compared to bamz3-2884/bamΔ86 ovarioles.

eIF-4a1006 fails to dominantly suppress the tumourous phenotype of bamΔ86 ovarioles.
