      One copy of dlS103A does not rescue embryos derived from dl null mothers to hatching, while two copies of dlS103A supports a low level of hatching of embryos derived from dl null mothers. Embryos derived from dl null mothers carrying one copy of dlS103A are weakly dorsalised, while those embryos derived from dl null mothers carrying two copies of dlS103A have wild-type cuticles. Embryos derived from dl1 cact7 mothers carrying dlS103A are strongly ventralised and do not hatch.
