Imaginal discs from larvae expressing His2Av^tCT in a His2Av⁸¹⁰ background have significantly more radiation-induced apoptotic cells than do discs from control larvae expressing His2Av^+t4.0 in a His2Av⁸¹⁰ background. This increase in radiation-induced apoptosis does not result in an increase in lethality. In the absence of radiation, both types of imaginal discs have a similar number of apoptotic cells.
