A heat shock promoter drives expression of a mutated form of Rab6 (carries the amino acid replacement Q71L).
Overexpression of Rab6Q71L.hs in a wild-type background using heat shock alters the direction of bristle growth at any point along the bristle shaft. Smoothly curving bristles or bristles with sharp changes in the orientation of growth followed by continued growth in two opposite directions are seen. Aberrations in the circumferential ridges are also seen.
Basal expression of Rab6Q71L.hs (without heat shock) rescues the bristle phenotype of Rab6eAM4, Rab6eAS1 or Rab6eER1.
