In stage 16 sli550 homozygous embryos, adjacent ventral nerve cord commissures are fused. This phenotype is never seen in sli550/+ embryos.

0.5% of expected mutant embryos hatch as first instar larvae. The latest observed stage of mutants is L1. Nerve cord length is 89% of embryo length. Midline guidance failure of repellence phenotype, evidenced by midline crossing, is moderate. Shows midline deviations in the most medial longitudial fascicle but retains a relatively intact lateral fascicle.

Unlike sli550/+ embryos, sli550/+; Tp(3;Y)A81 embryos have a fused adjacent ventral nerve cord commissure phenotype, very similar to that seen in sli550 homozygous embryos. Mild fusion of commissures also occurs in sli550/+ embryos that also carry sizP1.Scer\UAS or sizP2.Scer\UAS with Scer\GAL4sim.PS. Fusion of ventral nerve cord commissures seen in sli550 homozygous embryos is largely suppressed by shiK44A.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4rho.PL.

Percentage of segments with midline crossovers in robo1/sli550 transheterozygotes is 48%.
