Homozygous females do not lay any eggs. Partial rescue of the female sterile phenotype is seen if the third larval instar and pupal stages are raised at 18oC rather than at 22oC.
flampy+P flies have a permissive phenotype with respect to gypsy expression (assayed by expression of a P{gypsy-lacZ.p12} reporter construct in the ovaries).
flampy+P flies are unstable for ZAM expression (assayed by expression of a P{ZAM-lacZ.LTR} reporter construct in the ovaries).
Mutant females often show abnormalities during ovarian development. Compound egg chambers as well as egg chambers with a deficit in nurse cell number are seen.
Recessive permissive flam allele.

Excision of the P{lyB} insertion in flampy+P can revert the female sterile phenotype (in these cases there is simultaneous reversion towards the restrictive flam character).
