Gycα99B1/Gycα99B1 mutants do not exhibit defects in axon pruning or regrowth in the mushroom body gamma-lobe.

Greatly attenuates the synthesis of cGMP in the nervous system in response to nitric oxide. The projection pattern of R7/R8 at 48hrs APF is less well organised than in wild type, showing gaps in the pattern and extensions of the retinal axons slightly beyond the medullar margin. When CNS from white puparia were cultured with 10 micromolar L-NAME the projection pattern of retinal axons is severely disrupted. Retinal fibers cause a dense, disorganized tangle in the medulla with many projections extending into the lobula. Shows a reduction is positive phototaxis at 1 week after eclosion, though geotaxis assay behaviour is normal. 82% of ERGs from mutant flies lack off transients or have off transients that are greatly reduced in amplitude.

Mutant adults show no positive phototaxis.
