Insertion in the middle of the Tfb5 open reading frame, in the second exon.
Homozygous, Tfb5SH1279/Df(2L)Exel7022 and Tfb5SH1279/Df(2L)BSC172 flies show semi-lethality. The surviving males are sterile, while the surviving females have very reduced fertility, laying very few fertilised eggs of which only very few develop. All of the adults have a held-out wing phenotype as well as a slight reduction in wing size.
Tfb5SH1279 has partially lethal phenotype, non-suppressible by CG31917Hsp83.N.Tag:MYC
Tfb5SH1279 has male sterile phenotype, non-suppressible by CG31917Hsp83.N.Tag:MYC
Tfb5SH1279 has female semi-sterile phenotype, non-suppressible by CG31917Hsp83.N.Tag:MYC
Tfb5SH1279 has visible phenotype, non-suppressible by CG31917Hsp83.N.Tag:MYC
Tfb5SH1279 has wing phenotype, non-suppressible by CG31917Hsp83.N.Tag:MYC
CG31917Hsp83.N.T:Hsap\MYC does not rescue viability or any other defects (sterility and held-out wing phenotype) seen in Tfb5SH1279 homozygotes.
Flies expressing one copy of P{GD10407} (which results in down-regulation of both CG31917 and Tfb5 expression) under the control of one copy of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 in a homozygous Tfb5SH1279 background show a reduction in wing size.
Tfb5SH1279 is rescued by Tfb5C.Hsp83.Tag:polyHis
One copy of Tfb5C.Hsp83.T:Zzzz\His6 rescues the viability and all other defects (sterility and held-out wing phenotype) seen in Tfb5SH1279 homozygotes.
The P{lacW}Tfb5SH1279 insertion is within a bicistronic transcript that encodes both Tfb5 and CG31917. However, evidence indicates that the mutant phenotypes caused by the insertion are due to an effect on Tfb5 and not on CG31917 : all defects seen in P{lacW}Tfb5SH1279 homozygotes are rescued by Tfb5C.Hsp83.T:Zzzz\His6 and CG31917Hsp83.N.T:Hsap\MYC is unable to rescue any of the P{lacW}Tfb5SH1279 mutant phenotypes.
