Expression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF rescues the lack of a light-induced electroretinogram response seen in Cerk1 flies. The light-induced retinal degeneration that is seen in Cerk1 flies is also rescued by expression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.

The photoreceptor degeneration seen in Arr23 mutants is suppressed by expression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4unspecified in the fat body.

Expression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4unspecified in the fat body enhances the turnover of involuting rhabdomeric elements in ninaE17 mutants.

CDaseScer\UAS.cAa (driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PF) enhances the rhabdomere phenotype seen in ninaE17 animals. Very few rhabdomeric elements remain at the apical surface of the photoreceptors in three day old animals of this genotype. Most of the rhabdomeric membranes are internalised and are in the process of being cleared. When CDaseScer\UAS.cAa is driven by Scer\GAL4hs.PB and expressed in ninaE17 flies (under heat shock) just after eclosion, most of the rhabdomere is cleared from the apical region, unlike the phenotype seen in ninaE17 animals alone.

Expression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF suppresses rhabdomere degeneration in Arr23 flies and results in ommatidia that are similar to those of wild-type flies. Arr23 flies expressing CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have an electroretinogram with a large amplitude response, but the slow inactivation kinetics seen in Arr23 flies are not rescued. The degeneration of photoreceptor cells seen in flies expressing shi1.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 23oC is suppressed by coexpression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa; rhabdomeres are largely intact, there are fewer vacuolated cells and the trapezoidal arrangement of the rhabdomeres is retained. Expression of CDaseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF suppresses the retinal degeneration seen in norpA39 flies.
