Internal deletion in the P{lacW} element, which encompasses the w gene in the element but not the Ecol\lacZ gene. In addition, there is a 2.9kb deletion overlapping the coordinates 8761 to 9535 (coordinates relative to cosmid 17A9). The deletion removes the first coding exon and a large part of the following intron.
