Expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI early in larval development results in complete developmental arrest of the larvae, which remain in the first instar for up to 7 days. The feeding behaviour of these larvae is different from controls; the larvae expressing Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI show a 3-4 fold increase in wondering at 48 and 72 hours after egg laying compared to control larvae. Expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB early in larval development using heat shock treatment for 10 minutes every 24 hours inhibits larval growth. Upon removal from heat shock treatment the larvae remain in a state of developmental arrest until death. Expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in a mutant eye phenotype characterised by a lack of ommatidia and mechanosensory bristles. Expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in a significant reduction in the area of the ommatidia compared to control flies.

Co-expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS and Pi3K92ED954A.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF almost completely obliterates the eyes. Co-expression of Pi3K92EScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC partially rescues the eye phenotype caused by expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF; a lack of ommatidia and mechanosensory bristles is still seen. Co-expression of Akt1Scer\UAS.cSa does not rescue the eye phenotype caused by expression of Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. Co-expression of Akt1Scer\UAS.cSa and Mmus\Foxo1AA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in ommatidia that are approximately the same size as in control flies.
