Mutant adults show no electroantennogram response to a number of odorants.

Homozygotes do not emerge from the pupal case. However if they are rescued from the pupal case some survive for 2-4 days. These mutants are uncoordinated; they cannot stand or right themselves when turned on their back, and their legs get entangled in an attempt to walk. Electroretinogram responses are normal.

Expression of Klp64DScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Cha.7.4 partially restores cilia growth in the sensilla basiconica and sensilla trichodea of the antennae in Kap3V5 adults (cilia length is restored almost to wild type, while cilia volume is restored to approximately 25% of the normal level). Odor-evoked electroantennogram responses are also partly restored in these animals (assayed in response to ethyl acetate, n-butanol, benzaldehyde and propionic acid).

Expression of Klp68DScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-YFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Cha.7.4 does not rescue odor-evoked electroantennogram responses in Kap3V5 adults.

Comments

Kap3+t12 and Kap3+t20 rescue the odor-evoked electroantennogram response in Kap3V5 animals (assayed in response to ethyl acetate, n-butanol, benzaldehyde and propionic acid).
