    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

parkP23/parkP23 mutant females display large, abnormal egg chambers which contain more than 16 germ-line cells. Large follicles contain multiple 16 germ-cell cysts, enveloped by a single follicle cell epithelium. In the large follicles, one oocyte is usually observed located at the posterior, while the other oocytes are medially or anteriorly located.

The number of mature oocytes oviposited from parkP23 mutant females mated to wild-type males is 1.2/mother, and the rate of larval hatching is 0.

parkP23 mutants eclose later than heterozygous controls. Adults display a body mass reduction of approximately 30% in both sexes.

    Additional Comments

    Reference

The pupal lethality observed in parkP23/parkP23 mutant animals is suppressed in a eIF-4E07238/+ background. Pupal lethality is restored in ThorΔ1034-2617/ThorΔ1034-2617; parkP23, eIF-4E07238/parkP23 animals.

The number of mature oocytes oviposited from parkP23, eIF-4E07238/parkP23 mutant females mated to wild-type males is 42.8 oocytes/mother, and the rate of larval hatching is 40.5%, much improved compared to parkP23 homozygous mutant females.

eIF-4E07238/+ significantly abrogates the oogenesis defects in parkP23/parkP23 mutant females. Most egg chambers appear normal in these animals, and the reduced size of parkP23/parkP23 ovaries is rescued in a eIF-4E07238/+ background. Oogenesis defects are not restored in ThorΔ1034-2617/ThorΔ1034-2617; parkP23, eIF-4E07238/parkP23 mutant animals.
