A Golgi-retained form of fj (comprises the Tag:Golgi(hGALNT3) Golgi retention signal fused via a linker glycine residue to amino acids 109-583 of fj) is expressed under the control of genomic fj regulatory sequences; 8.7 kb upstream sequence and 4.3 kb downstream sequence is present.

The distance between anterior and posterior crossveins is reduced in flies carrying one copy of fjt14.T:Hsap\GALNT3, and is further reduced in flies carrying 2 copies. Somatic clones lacking fjt14.T:Hsap\GALNT3 induced in a fjd1/fjd1; fjt14.T:Hsap\GALNT3/+ background non-autonomously cause inversion of ommatidia.
