Site of nucleotide substitution in fly gene inferred by FlyBase curator based on reported amino acid change. A second point mutation relative to the iso-1 reference sequence was reported, a T to P substitution at the N-terminus, but this substitution was present in the starting strain prior to mutagenesis.

zipz2097/Df(2R)BSC608, zipz2097/zip1 or zipz2097/zip2 males exhibit multinucleate onion stage spermatids.
zipz2097/Df(2R)BSC608 spermatocytes exhibit F-actin rings that are substantially thinner and fail to constrict.
zipz2097/Df(2R)BSC608 third instar larval neuroblasts at late telophase fail to pinch the central spindle midzone during cytokinesis and dividing neuroblasts exhibit defective contractile rings.
A large proportion of cbeZ2097 mutant spermatids have one large nebenkern with four nuclei of normal size, indicating a cytokinetic failure in both meiotic divisions. A smaller proportion have two nuclei and a large nebenkern, indicating failure of only one of the meiotic divisions. Spermatocytes of cbeZ2097 mutants lack an organized central spindle and an F-actin ring throughout ana-telophase. The equatorial anillin band is present but fails to constrict properly.
