Removal of SppL (using the genotype SppL^24J/Df(3R)Sppl^BW1) in a Spp⁵/+ or Df(2L)lwr¹⁴, lwr^+t2.4/+ background has no noticeable effect on viability, morphology or fertility.

Lethality of Spp⁵/Df(2L)lwr¹⁴, lwr^+t2.4; SppL^24J/Df(3R)Sppl^BW1 double mutants occurs during larval stages, as it does in the Spp single mutant. Removal of SppL does not enhance the Spp tracheal phenotype.
