Imprecise excision of P{lacW}SpplSH116 resulting in elimination of the branch points for the introns between non-coding exons 2-3 and between non-coding exon 2 and coding exon 1 (proximal to the insertion), and removal of the translation start site, the first transmembrane domain and part of the loop between transmembrane domains 1 and 2 (distal to the insertion).
Mutants display no obvious morphological abnormalities. Hemizygous SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1 flies have a similar life span to controls.
SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1 is a non-enhancer of lethal | larval stage phenotype of Df(2L)lwr14/Spp5
SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1, S2P1 has viable phenotype
SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1, S2P1 has fertile phenotype
Removal of SppL (using the genotype SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1) in a Spp5/+ or Df(2L)lwr14, lwr+t2.4/+ background has no noticeable effect on viability, morphology or fertility.
Lethality of Spp5/Df(2L)lwr14, lwr+t2.4; SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1 double mutants occurs during larval stages, as it does in the Spp single mutant. Removal of SppL does not enhance the Spp tracheal phenotype.
Double mutants of S2P1 and SppL24J/Df(3R)SpplBW1 are viable, of normal size and shape, and fertile.
