    Detailed Description

Weak allele. pixL35 flies show no developmental delay and adults have wings of the same area as wild-type controls. pixL35/pixL24 flies have a slow developmental time (12-13.5 days) compared to wild-type flies (10 days). Adult flies are smaller than wild type with a decreased wing area, slender, short thoracic macrochaetae and occasional eye roughening. pixL35/pixL17 show the same phenotype, except that the developmental time is 12-15 days. pixL35/pixL17 wing discs display distinct patterns of elevated apoptosis; there are uniformly distributed clusters of apoptotic cells during the early to late mid third instar, followed by a transient period during the late third instar when apoptosis is intense in the wing pouch. Shortly before pupation, apoptosis is less intense and more uniformly distributed. The resulting adult wings are patterned normally.

Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa in the posterior compartment of pixL35/pixL17 wing discs, driven by Scer\GAL4en-e16E, increases the area of the posterior compartment relative to control wings that also express BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa in the posterior.
