GclcScer\UAS.cOa; Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL animals are not significantly longer lived than wild-type. However, GclcScer\UAS.cOa; Scer\GAL4D42 and GclcScer\UAS.cOa; Scer\GAL4Appl.G1a animals show significant increases in both mean and maximum life spans (90% mortality) compared to wild-type. These flies also show increased resistance to hydrogen peroxide and paraquat at 40 days old (although not at 10 days old). Significantly increased average lifespan is also seen in GclcScer\UAS.cOa; Scer\GAL4elav-C155 animals (note - this is not seen with all GclcScer\UAS.cOa insertions: P{UAS-Gclc.O}3 and P{UAS-Gclc.O}5 show the effect whereas with P{UAS-Gclc.O}6 lifespan is no different to wild-type.) Increases in lifespan in these flies do not correlate with any changes in respiratory rate.
