Detailed Description

Homozygotes and heterozygotes have no significant growth defects, either in whole animals or in individual structures such as the wing and eye.

93.8% of homozygotes have ectopic vein tissue in thw wing, occasionally around vein L2, but more consistently in the vicinity of the posterior crossvein and wing vein L5. Ectopic veins located posterior to L5 have a dorsal identity, while ectopic veins protruding from the posterior crossvein and anterior to L5 mostly have a ventral identity.

Approximately 20% of heterozygotes have an ectopic wing vein phenotype (the precise frequency depends on genetic background).

Flies expressing SnooGS-C517T under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 do not show an upturned wing phenotype.

Flies expressing SnooGS-C517T under the control of Scer\GAL4Act or Scer\GAL4tub have multiple ectopic wing veins in the L5 region.

The frequency of the SnooGS-C517T/SnooGS-C517T ectopic wing vein phenotype is significantly suppressed if the flies are also carrying one copy of dppd5 or dppd6.

The frequency of the ectopic wing vein phenotype caused by expression of SnooGS-C517T under the control of Scer\GAL4tub is significantly suppressed if the flies are also carrying one copy of dppd5, dppd6 or dpps11.
