Unlike overexpression of wild-type dally, expression of dallyΔGAG.Scer\UAS in the eye, driven by Scer\GAL4ey.PH, does not result in overgrowth or a change in photoreceptor number per ommatidium. However, it does result in a severely disorganized ommatidial structure, which is not seen when wild-type dally is overexpressed.

Expression of dallyΔGAG.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4A9 partially rescues the phenotypes of dallygem, dallygem/Df(3L)Scf-R6, dallygem/dallyΔP-527 and dally80/Df(3L)Scf-R6 mutants. The transgene substantially restores chemosensory bristle numbers in the wing margin, almost fully rescues the formation of wing vein L5, almost fully restores the formation of the anterior dorsocentral bristles on the notum without inducing the formation of extra ones for all mutants. However, it fails to restore formation of the posterior supraalar bristles.
