Adults expressing Desat1GD2950 under the control of Scer\GAL4r4 exhibit decreased food consumption and increased excreta; guts are smaller (decreased gut length and width) and less permeable (fewer Smurfs in Smurf assays).

Under a control diet, 3-weeks old adult females expressing Desat1GD2950 under the control of Scer\GAL4r4 show decreased larval and fly body mass, decreased heart failure, with faster recovery, as compared to controls. Under high sugar diet, these individuals show increased heart failure, with slower recovery, decreased heart rate, increased heart period, decreased systolic and diastolic width, and increased systolic interval.

Scer\GAL4Cg.PA-mediated expression of Desat1GD2950 results in smaller pupae and adults with reduced wing/body size. The larval fat body is composed of smaller cells.

The half-life of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA Desat1GD2950 animals during starvation is decreased compared to controls.

Expression of desat1GD2950 under the control of Scer\GAL4desat1.RE in males results in the ratio of desaturated:saturated linear hydrocarbons being biased in favour saturated linear hydrocarbons, in contrast to wild-type males where the ratio is biased in favour of desaturated hydrocarbons.

The ratio of desaturated:saturated linear hydrocarbons is reduced in males expressing desat1GD2950 under the control of either Scer\GAL4desat1.RA or Scer\GAL4desat1.RC, and to a lesser extent Scer\GAL4desat1.RB, compared to the ratio seen in wild-type males.

The ratio of desaturated:saturated linear hydrocarbons is reduced in males expressing desat1GD2950 under the control of either Scer\GAL4desat1.RD or Scer\GAL4desat1.-1102 is not significantly altered compared to the ratio seen in wild-type males.

The ability of males expressing desat1GD2950 under the control of any one of Scer\GAL4desat1.RA, Scer\GAL4desat1.RC, Scer\GAL4desat1.RE, Scer\GAL4desat1.RB or Scer\GAL4desat1.RD to discriminate between male and female flies in a courtship assay is not significantly altered compared to wild type.

Males expressing desat1GD2950 under the control of Scer\GAL4desat1.-1102 cannot discriminate between male and female flies in a courtship assay.

Adults expressing Desat1GD2950 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.

Larvae expressing desat1GD2950 under the control of Scer\GAL4ppl.PP in a heterozygous Df(3R)Exel7316 genetic background show abnormal autophagic response to starvation.

Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 may result in semi-lethality, depending on the insertion line used.

Co-expression of Desat1GD2950 prevents the Scer\GAL4Cg.PA-mediated expression of MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 resulting in abnormally large pupae and large wings. Co-expression of Desat1GD2950 also prevents the increased half-life upon starvation seen in Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 animals.
