Somatic clones of sec153 homozygous cells in the notum exhibit severe bristle loss. Analysis of developing notal bristles in these clones at 24-26 hours after puparium formation shows many have 4-6 neurons (as opposed to the normal 1), 0-2 sheath cells and, in most cases, no socket cell. These phenotypes are indicative of a PIIa to PIIb transformation. The resulting adult nota have patches which completely lack bristles.
Apical-basal polarity in sensory organ precursor cells is not disrupted in sec153/sec153 somatic clones.
Sec153 has macrochaeta & mesothoracic tergum | somatic clone phenotype, suppressible by NECN.UAS/Scer\GAL4sca-109-68
Bristle loss in somatic clones of sec153 homozygous cells in the notum is suppressed by NECN.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4sca-109-68. Instead they have the bristle phenotype seen in NECN.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4sca-109-68 animals: two sockets and no shaft.
