3 day old adults expressing UbqnScer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have normal eye morphology, with organised arrays of photoreceptors and non-neuronal pigment cells. However, by day 18, neurodegeneration is readily visible in the photoreceptors, with vacuoles and some cell loss, as well as degeneration in the pigment cells. Eye degeneration in these flies worsens progressively with age.
