At 18[o]C, flies expressing scnyGS13668 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have eyes that are normal in size and shape but which are slightly rough and show smoothness at the anterior portion of the eye. At 22[o]C, At 22[o]C, approximately 50% of the flies fail to eclose and die trapped in the pupal cases. The adults that survive have abnormal eye that are small and have a smooth or glossy phenotype. At 25[o]C, less than 1% of these animals eclose. Adults escapers have more severe eye defects than those grown at 22[o]C.

Most flies expressing scnyGS13668 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 22 or 25[o]C have a scab of black tissue at the anterior region of the eye. This scab comes from a mass of tissue that is observed in pupae where it appears that cells within the eye are "leaking" out of the anterior portion of the developing eye, although it is unclear whether these cells are hemorrhaging from the eye or growing on top of the eye.

At 25[o]C, flies co-expressing scnyD.Scer\UAS and scnyGS13668 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have eyes that are larger and less rough than those expressing scnyGS13668 alone under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.

    Additional Comments
    Genetic Interactions
    Statement
    Reference

The semi-lethality seen at 22[o]C in animals expressing scnyGS13668 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is enhanced by th4/+, so that none of the double mutant animals eclose.

th4/+ enhances the severity of the rough eye phenotype caused by expression of scnyGS13668 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 18[o]C.

Co-expression of thScer\UAS.cHa completely suppresses the lethality caused by expression of scnyGS13668 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF at 25[o]C, and partially suppresses the mutant eye phenotype.
