Expression of bazS980A.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP-m6 under the control of Scer\GAL4tub in clones in the follicle cells results in a marked constriction of the apical surfaces of the follicle cells, which causes the apical sides of the cells to cluster. In addition, cells in clones in the anterior region of the epithelium are usually shorter than their neighbours and are inhibited in their posterior movement to envelop the oocyte in stage 9 egg chambers.
Maternal expression of bazS980A.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP-m6 under the control of Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16 causes embryos to die with disorganised epithelia that secrete small grains of cuticle. Epithelial organisation is already disrupted by stage 9 of embryogenesis in these animals, although the major morphogenetic events still occur.
Expression of bazS980A.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP-m6 under the control of Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16 has no significant effect on oocyte polarity.
bazS980A.UASp.mGFP6/Scer\GAL4VP16.mat.αTub67C fails to rescue baz4
The epithelial organisation defects seen in baz4 zygotic mutant embryos are not rescued by zygotic expression of bazS980A.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP-m6 under the control of Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16.
