    Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP5272 cells in adults does not affect startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls.

    Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP5272 cells in adults does not affect startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls.

    Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2UAS.EGFP) of Scer\GAL4NP5272 neurons, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to 1 day prior to training and testing, does not affect 3 hour aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.

    Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP5272 cells in adults during training and testing or training alone, but not only after training, significantly reduces 30-min aversive, but not appetitive, olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition during training significantly reduces 2-hour total, but not anaesthesia-resistant, memory, but has little effect on immediate or 9-hour memory; inhibition does not affect naive shock avoidance, compared to controls.

    Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 30[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP5272 cells in adults, in combination with a paired odor, results in a significant increase in 2-min, but not 2-hour, aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; this increase is no longer seen when activation is restricted to a smaller subset of Scer\GAL4NP5272 cells using Scer\GAL80ple.PK.
