ScerGAL4NP3212 drives expression in mushroom body extrinsic neurons, including mushroom body medial lobe arborizing neurons 4, 5, and 6, that innervate mushroom body gamma lobe slices 3 and 5, and mushroom body beta' lobe slice 2.
Beta' lobe expression has only been mapped for medial lobe arborizing neuron 4, as the arborization patterns of medial lobe arborizing neuron 5 and 6 have not yet been fully characterized. Gamma lobe segment 5 expression is found only with medial lobe arborizing neuron 6.
Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP3212 cells in adults does not affect startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls.
Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP3212 cells in adults significantly reduces startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls.
Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP3212 cells in adults during testing significantly reduces medium term (3 h) aversive olfactory memory, including its anaesthesia-resistant component, compared to controls; inhibition during and after testing (excluding the memory test) does not affect medium term (3 h) aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition does not affect olfactory acuity, compared to controls; inhibition of a subset of Scer\GAL4NP3212 cells in adults (restricted using Scer\GAL80Mef2.mb247) during testing also significantly reduces medium term (3 h) aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.
Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2UAS.EGFP) of Scer\GAL4NP3212 neurons, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to 1 day prior to training and testing, does not affect 3 hour aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.
