Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 31[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR50H04 cells in adults, significantly increases food intake of sated, but not starved, flies, compared to controls; activation has no effect on proboscis extension reflex in response to sucrose and does not reduce preference for nutritious food, compared to controls.
Inhibition (using Ctet\tetXTNT-LC.UAS) of Scer\GAL4GMR50H04 cells, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to the adult stage, significantly reduces long-term food intake of sated adults and survival time under starvation conditions, compared to controls; inhibition does not reduce preference for nutritious food, compared to controls.
