Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR83A12 cells in adults 30 min before and during testing significantly reduces 30 min, but not 3 h, aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; this inhibition also significantly reduces 30 min, 3 h and 24 h appetitive olfactory memory in starved flies, compared to controls; inhibition in naive flies also significantly increases avoidance of 3-octanol and 4-methylcyclohexanol, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR83A12 cells in adults 15 min before and during testing significantly reduces 30 min aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; activation does not affect 3 h appetitive olfactory memory in starved flies, but does significantly increase appetitive memory in flies that are fed between training and testing, compared to controls; activation in naive flies also significantly decreases avoidance of 3-octanol and 4-methylcyclohexanol, compared to controls.
