    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Mosaic animals containing homozygous R8 photoreceptor axons in an otherwise wild-type background only occasionally have defects in R8 axon targeting (the axons occasionally innervate neighbouring medulla columns and make abnormal contacts with other R8 photoreceptor axons).

Class IV dendrites cross the midline in 15.3% of cases in homozygous embryos.

stanE86/stanE59 transheterozygotes survive until wandering third larval instar stages and even up to the adult stage.

The branches of the ddaC class IV neurons show a four-fold increase in the crossing index within the dorsal region of the arbor in stanE86/stanE59 third instar larvae compared to wild type, although the cumulative branch length of the dendrites is unchanged in the mutant larvae. The class IV neurons also show occasional axon misrouting and stalling of growth cones.

    Reference

gogoH1675/+ or gogoD869/+ substantially increases the incidence of R8 photoreceptor axon defects in mosaic animals containing homozygous stanE86 R8 photoreceptor axons.

The dorsal-midline crossing phenotype seen in class IV neurons of stanE86 embryos is enhanced by gogoD869/+ (midline crossing is seen in 29.6% of cases).

    Comments

Expression of stanScer\UAS.TTV or of stanScer\UAS.AEY under the control of Scer\GAL4477 rescues the increased crossing that is seen in the dorsal dendritic arbor of the ddaC class IV neurons in stanE86/stanE59 third instar larvae.

Expression of stanΔJM-A.Scer\UAS.TTV under the control of Scer\GAL4477 does not rescue the increased crossing that is seen in the dorsal dendritic arbor of the ddaC class IV neurons in stanE86/stanE59 third instar larvae.
