      robo3 reporter is expressed specifically and transiently in photoreceptor R8 growth cones. It is expressed in third instar larval R8 growth cones as they enter the optic lobe, displays a graded pattern of staining with decreased staining in axons extending further toward their final layer, and is downregulated shortly after the R8 axons enter the medulla neuropil.
