In kugN103-2 mutants, follicular epithelium migration is blocked; kugN103-2 heterozygous eggs are slightly but significantly rounder than controls.

kugN103-2 mutant follicular epithelia fail to undergo migration, in contrast to controls.

kugN103-2 mutant cells in mosaic follicular epithelia exhibit a non-cell-autonomous defect in leading edge protrusion formation, as wild type cells positioned directly behind kugN103-2 mutant cells lack protrusions, whereas kugN103-2 cells positioned directly behind wild type cells form protrusions normally. When a cell's leading edge contacts both a kugN103-2 cell and a wild type cell, protrusions are lost only from the region contacting the kugN103-2 cell. kugN103-2 mutant cells also exhibit significantly elongated basal surfaces, indicative of a defect in trailing edge retraction.

Follicle cell epithelia fail to migrate in mutant females.

Females carrying homozygous follicle cell clones produce round eggs.
